Objectives of this Armor of God Object Lesson
Use this crazy, fun activity to:
- Introduce the Armor of God to your kids.
- Demonstrate the importance of having proper protection for the situations you face.
- Grab your kids’ attention at the beginning of your first lesson on the Armor of God.
Supplies Needed

Tape – You can use masking tape, but I recommend this type of tape because it is SOOOO much easier to get off after you’re done! If you’ve ever spent time on your knees trying to scrape masking tape off the floor, you know what I’m talking about. 😀 So do yourself a favor and grab this kind of tape instead.
Water guns – The little ones don’t usually work so well… In fact I recommend these water shooters rather than true water “guns.” I got a bunch of them for a couple of dollars last summer, and they worked better than the more expensive water guns we had.
Trash bags – The big black ones.
Scissors – These are for cutting head and arm holes in the trash bags.
Small prizes – Candy or little trinkets like these.
Armor of God Intro Activity Prep
Use tape to mark out two small boxes on the floor at the front of your room. Make the boxes no bigger than one square foot. And make sure that they are close together—about three feet apart or so.
Fill two water guns with water.
Cut three holes in the trash bags—one at the bottom of the bag (this will be for the head) and two in the sides (this will be for arms).
Armor of God Intro Activity Instructions
Round 1
Ask for two volunteers from your audience.
Tell the volunteers to stand in the tape boxes on the floor (one volunteer in each box).
Give them each a full water gun.
Explain that they will get 60 seconds (until the whistle blows) to get the other person’s shirt as wet as possible!
They can duck, block, or try to dodge, but they must keep within their boxes.
If either contestant steps outside his or her box, the competition will be over immediately.
Tell the volunteers “Go!” and start the stopwatch.
When 60 seconds are up, blow the whistle.
With lots of dramatic fanfare, inspect the contestants to determine which one came out less wet. Give them both a prize for participating.
Then proceed to Round 2—but with one little modification.
Round 2
Ask for two more volunteers from your audience.
Explain that they will do the exact same competition, with the same rules—except for one thing.
Pull out the trash bags and give one to each volunteer to put on over his or her shirt.
Then give the volunteers their water guns, say “Go!” and start the stopwatch.
When 60 seconds are up, blow the whistle and inspect the contestants to see who won. Give them both a prize for participating.
Make your point: Protection Needed!
Ask the original two volunteers to come back up and stand next to the last two.
Point out which two, of the four, were technically the “winners” of each round.
Then ask the audience which two, of the four, ended up the wettest (regardless of winners/losers). (The answer should be the first two.)
Ask the audience which two stayed the driest. (The answer should be the last two.)
Thank all the volunteers for their participation and send them back to their seats.
Point out to the audience that the right kind of protection makes all the difference!

Where can I find the printouts labeled on the supply list in the leader’s guide as “Truth” printout, “Righteousness” printout, etc?
