I believe that you should know the data that is being collected about you online, and how it’s being used. This page tells you specifically which data I collect when you visit BibleBaton.com and how I use it. ❤
First of all, please know that as a Christian, I will do my utmost to treat you the way I would want to be treated, and to always deal in an ethical way with you and your data. All the data that I collect here at BibleBaton is specifically for the purpose of improving your user experience and serving you better.
This policy applies when I am acting as a “data controller” for your personal data (when I determine the purposes and means of processing your personal data).

The data that I collect and how I use it
These are the general categories of data that I may collect and process here at BibleBaton.com:
- Data about your use of this website and services (“usage data”). This may include your IP address, geographical location, gender, age, Internet browser, operating system, full referrer, how long you stay on this website, which pages you view and how you navigate to them, and info about when you visit and how often. As you can imagine, the majority of this data is used to determine which resources here at BibleBaton are interesting and helpful to you! The other data is mainly so that I know where you’re coming from and which demographic you fall in, so I can comply with rules and regulations around the world.
- Data about your account (“account data”). This may include your name and email address. The only time that I collect this data is when you choose to provide it to me, either by leaving a comment or by signing up for my emails. I mainly use this to moderate blog comments (no spam comments here, please!), to maintain security and integrity of this website and services, maintaining backups, and of course communicating with you! ❤ The legal basis for this type of data processing is consent–I do NOT collect this info unless you choose to share it with me.
- Data about your personal profile on this site (“profile data”) and your use of my services (“service data”). This may include your name, address, email address, profile picture, gender, interests and hobbies, and similar information. I normally only collect this if you make a purchase from me. The majority of this info is collected so I can comply with tax laws and other regulations surrounding online sales. The source of this data is you; I only collect this data if you choose to provide it to me. The legal basis for this processing is consent.
- Data from your posts (“publication data”) and inquiries (“inquiry data”). I may process data contained in anything you post on this website or send to me regarding information and services provided here. This is mainly so I can help you regarding particular materials. The inquiry data may be processed for the purposes of offering, marketing, and selling relevant goods and/or services to you. The legal basis for this processing is consent.
- Data from your transactions, such as purchases of goods and services, through this website (“transaction data”). This may include your contact details and transaction details. This is for the sake of my bookkeeping mainly, and so that I can help you if you have a problem with your customer account or the product you purchased. I only collect your personal details if you provide them to me, and the transaction details are recorded when you make a purchase. The legal basis for this is consent.
- Data from subscriptions (“notification data”) and correspondence (“correspondence data”). If you sign up for my email list, I may process information that you provide to me in order to send you more specific and relevant email notifications and/or newsletters. I may also process the communication intent and metadata associated with the communication. This is for the purpose of communicating with you (and also for record-keeping). The legal basis for this processing is consent and my legitimate interests (namely, proper administration of this site and communication with my users).
I reserve the right to process any data identified above in this policy when needed for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims, whether in court or out of it. I also may use the data above in this policy if necessary for insurance, managing risks, or obtaining professional advice. The legal basis for this processing is my legitimate interests, namely the protection and assertion of legal rights (mine, yours, and others’) and the proper protection of my business against risks. I may also process your personal data if it’s needed for compliance with a legal obligation, or in order to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of another person.
Please do NOT supply someone else’s personal data to me!
How I may share your data
I identified above how I use your data, for the most part. Again, this data is mainly collected in order to improve your experience, to let me know how I can serve you better, and to make sure that I’m complying with any legal obligations. If you’re wondering about how I use particular data, check the list above.
Here are a couple of other ways that I may use your personal data:
- I may share your data with insurers and/or professional advisors, if reasonably necessary, to obtain or maintain insurance coverage, manage risks, obtain professional advice, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims (whether in court or out). I don’t anticipate using your data in this way, but if this site grew tremendously, I want you that I might need to use it this way–just in case. 😉
- Your data IS shared with my payment processor. I use Stripe for this. In fact, I don’t personally handle any of your sensitive data (like credit card numbers). That’s all handled by Stripe, and they have ways of encrypting and otherwise protecting your personal information–so you can feel safe purchasing from this website! ❤ I will share transaction data and contact data with Stripe for each purchase, for the purpose of processing payments, handling refunds, and dealing with complaints or inquiries related to purchases. You can find more information about payment services at Stripe.com.
In addition to all specific disclosures of personal data indicated in this policy, I may also disclose your personal data when necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which I’m subject, or in order to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of another person. I may also disclose your personal data when necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims, whether in court proceedings or in an administrative or out-of-court procedure.
Again, I don’t anticipate using any of your data this way, but I want to let you know up front just in case a situation should arise when I must use your data because of legal issues.
International transfer of your data
This section is mainly to comply with legislation surrounding personal data of citizens of the European Union. Simply stated, your personal data may be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area.
- The hosting facilities for our website are situated in the United States. The European Commission has made an “adequacy decision” with respect to the data protection laws of each of these countries. Transfers to each of these countries will be protected by appropriate safeguards, namely the use of standard data protection clauses adopted or approved by the European Commission.
- You acknowledge that personal data that you submit for publication through our website or services may be available, via the internet, around the world. We cannot prevent the use (or misuse) of such personal data by others.
How long I keep your data
I will retain your personal data no longer than necessary for complying with legal obligations in relation to the retention and deletion of personal data.
- All personal data will be kept for a minimum period of your user status with this site.
- In some cases, it’s not possible for me to specify in advance how long your personal data will be retained. In such cases, I’ll determine the period your data is kept based on your personal desire regarding the period your personal data is retained.
Notwithstanding the other provisions listed above, I may also retain your personal data when necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which I am subject, or in order to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of another person.
I do use “cookies”
A cookie is a file containing an identifier (a string of letters and numbers) that is sent by a web server to a web browser and is stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. Cookies may be either “persistent” cookies or “session” cookies: a persistent cookie will be stored by a web browser and will remain valid until its set expiry date, unless deleted by the user before the expiry date; a session cookie, on the other hand, will expire at the end of the user session, when the web browser is closed. Cookies do not typically contain any information that personally identifies a user, but personal information that I store about you may be linked to the information stored in and obtained from cookies.
Almost all websites use cookies. The purpose of these, mainly, is to track your use and then to make sure that you are only presented with relevant and useful content, based on your previous use.
I use cookies for these purposes:
- Authentication. I use cookies to identify you when you visit and navigate this site.
- Status. I use cookies to help determine if you are logged in.
- Personalization. I use cookies to store information about your preferences and to personalize this website for you.
- Security. I use cookies as an element of my security measures to protect user accounts, including preventing fraudulent use of login credentials, and to protect my website and services in general.
- Advertising. I don’t currently run ads on BibleBaton, but if I were to begin running them, I would use cookies to help display advertisements that would be relevant to you.
- Analysis. I use cookies to help me analyze the use and performance of my site and services.
- Cookie Consent. I may use cookies to store your preferences in relation to the use of cookies more generally.
Most of the cookies used on this site are due to Google Analytics, which simply helps me track how you use the site (which pages you visit, how long you visit for, etc.). This data helps me know which information is most useful to you. Then I can respond by making this site more helpful to you and improving your user experience. 🙂
Sometimes companies that I’ve partnered with (such as Amazon) use cookies too. When you click over to their site from BibleBaton.com, the cookie tells them that I referred you there. That way, I get credit for the referral. For more information about this, you can visit my disclosure page.
You can always refuse to accept cookies, as well as delete them. You’ll do that using the settings in your Internet browser. The method is different depending on which browser you use, but if you want to turn off or delete cookies, just search the name of your browser plus a phrase such as “how to delete cookies.” You should be able to find a simple tutorial for how to handle cookies using your browser’s settings.
I don’t recommend blocking all cookies, simply because it will negatively impact the usability of many websites. If you block cookies, you won’t be able to use all the features on this site, either.
Your rights
Your principal rights under data protection law are:
- the right to access
- the right to rectification
- the right to erasure
- the right to restrict processing
- the right to object to processing
- the right to data portability
- the right to complain to a supervisory authority
- the right to withdraw consent
You have the right to confirmation as to whether or not I process your personal data. You also have the right to ask for any personal information I have about you. I will give that information to you provided you supply appropriate evidence of your identity (such as a photocopy of your passport certified by a solicitor or bank, plus an original copy of a utility bill showing your current address). I may withhold personal information that you requested, to the extent permitted by the law. And this right to receive your personal data from me does not apply where it would adversely affect the rights and freedoms of others. Finally, you have the right to have any inaccurate personal data about you rectified and, taking into account the purposes of the processing, to have any incomplete personal data about you completed.
You may instruct me at any time not to process your personal information for marketing purposes. Usually, however, you will either expressly agree in advance to my use of your personal information for marketing purposes, or I’ll provide you with an opportunity to opt out of the use of your personal information for marketing purposes.
You have the right to object to my processing of your personal data on grounds relating to your particular situation, but only to the extent that the legal basis for the processing is that the processing is necessary for: the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of any official authority vested in me; or the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by me or by a third party. If you make such an objection, I will cease to process the personal information unless I can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing is for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.
You have the right to object to my processing of your personal data for direct marketing purposes (including profiling for direct marketing purposes). If you make such an objection, I will cease to process your personal data for this purpose.
You have the right to object to my processing of your personal data for scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes on grounds relating to your particular situation, unless the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out for reasons of public interest.
In some circumstances you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data. Those circumstances are: you contest the accuracy of the personal data; processing is unlawful but you oppose erasure; I no longer need the personal data for the purposes of my processing, but you require personal data for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims; and you have objected to processing, pending the verification of that objection. Where processing has been restricted on this basis, I may continue to store your personal data. However, I will only otherwise process it: with your consent; for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims; for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person; or for reasons of important public interest.
In some circumstances you have the right to the erasure of your personal data without undue delay. Those circumstances include: the personal data are no longer necessary in relation to the purposes for which they were collected or otherwise processed; you withdraw consent to consent-based processing; you object to the processing under certain rules of applicable data protection law; the processing is for direct marketing purposes; and the personal data have been unlawfully processed. However, there are exclusions of the right to erasure. The general exclusions include where processing is necessary: for exercising the right of freedom of expression and information; for compliance with a legal obligation; or for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.
You may exercise your rights in relation to your personal data by written notice to me.
