Never underestimate the value of a simple gift idea for kids

I’ll be honest—gift bags are probably the LAST thing I’d ever think of.

But it was the very first suggestion my friend made for the Girls’ Retreat we did this fall. “I think we need Bible based gifts for each girl,” she said.

If I’m still being honest, I thought it was kind of an unimportant detail.

Boy, was I wrong!

My friend put together some delightful Bible based gifts for the kids that came to the retreat. She included hand-painted mugs with Bible verses, hot cocoa packets, special Bible highlighters, and more.

We gave the gifts to the kids during the opening session, and it set such a great tone for the entire Retreat. The girls were super thrilled with their unique faith based gifts!

I realized I had severely underestimated how important good inspirational gifts for kids are. But that’s not a mistake I’ll make again. And I hope that this quick and easy guide will give you some great ideas for Christian gifts for Sunday School students or the kids in your children’s church, too!

Christian gifts for kids are an awesome idea

Whether you want Christmas gift ideas for children’s church, or just some fun inspirational gifts for children, you’re sure to find a couple of ideas here that will work for you.

Since you landed on this blog post, I’m assuming that you already know that faith based gifts for kids are a great idea. In fact, I hope you’re thinking right now, “Oh yeah, I need gifts for my Sunday School class!”

So let’s get started.

The best Bible gifts for kids in your Sunday School class

1) Journal & pencils

I’m totally stealing this first idea from my friend’s gift bags for the Girls’ Retreat. She chose everything for her gifts with the idea that the girls could use it during their personal devotions with God. And that’s the idea I’m going with here.

For the kids in your Sunday School class or children’s ministry, what better gift than an inspirational journal to use for Bible study?

You can get some really gorgeous faith based journals like this “Hope in Your Word” journal or this “Dear God” journal, but I particularly like this one for its simplicity:

Do Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly - Christian Journal

Plus, I think this journal isn’t so “girly” that your boys would refuse to use it either.

I also like that it includes just Scripture inside. (Sometimes the “inspirational” quotes and messages in other journals can be too cheesy.)

Pair the journal with some fun Scripture-imprinted pencils, pop it in a cute Bible based gift bag, and you’re set!

2) Bible coloring & activity books

If you have a lot of kids in your class, you need inexpensive gifts for Sunday School students—but, ideally, something that still reinforces the biblical truth you’ve been teaching.

My recommendation? Try a Bible coloring book or a faith based activity book. You can usually get them for reasonable prices, especially if they’re small.

Here’s a set of high-quality yet affordable coloring books themed around Creation:

Creation Coloring Book Combo

Or if you need a really cost-effective option, Oriental Trading Company is a fantastic source for “religious gifts” like coloring books. Plus, they usually sell things in bulk, so you can grab anywhere from a dozen to 100 pieces at a time! I usually end up spending less than $2 per item when I get prizes and gifts from Oriental Trading.

I love these Bible story coloring books from Oriental Trading, but depending on what you’ve recently covered in your Sunday School class, you may prefer the “Miracles of Jesus” coloring books or the “7 Days of Creation” coloring books.

Pair the coloring books with a package of crayons, pop it in a fun Christian gift bag, and you’re good to go!

3) Bible based games

It’s surprising how many board games and card games have a “Bible” version!

If you only have a few kids, you might consider something like Bible-Opoly or the “Bible Edition” of Apples to Apples. For larger crowds, go with a less expensive card game for each kiddo, such as:

  • Bible Rummy
  • Bible Blurt
  • The Bible Guess-It Game

Or gift each kid with one of my favorites: Bible Mad Gab. We have this hilarious card game and it has provided us with many hours of hysterical laughter!

4) Bible based puzzles

You might be able to find a Christian themed puzzle at your local Bible bookstore, but be sure to check out this awesome cube puzzle for the New Testament!

This creatively designed puzzle includes 6 images from throughout the Bible, so you get 6 times as much use from them (as compared to a regular puzzle which only has one picture). And it’s made by Melissa & Doug, which is a company with a great reputation for high-quality, well-designed toys for children.

5) Water bottles with Bible verses

I purchased one of these inspirational water bottles recently as a birthday gift for a young girl I know. I was really pleased with how solid the bottle seemed, for such an inexpensive price!

And there are a lot of colors and messages to choose from. You could just get each of your Sunday School students the same style of bottle. Or you could personalize the gift by hand-picking a different color and message for each child.

6) Inspirational trinkets, candies, & more

After choosing your main gift, round out your Sunday School Bible gifts with a few mini toys and candies! Here are a few ideas you can try:

  • Mini kaleidoscopes
  • Mini flashlights
  • Bible verse magnets
  • Bible verse hard candies
  • Mints with Bible verses
  • “Colors of faith” candy canes
  • Scripture old fashioned mints

Then throw everything into one of these biblical message gift bags, add a little tissue paper, and you’re good to go!

Easy, simple, & quick Bible gifts for kids

Finding faith based gifts for kids can be as quick and easy as that—and you don’t have to spend a small fortune, either. Just place a quick order for a few fun Christian themed gifts and toss them into a bag!

Don’t make the mistake I did; don’t assume that Christian gifts for kids are a silly or useless idea. They can turn out to be a really neat and meaningful thing.

So go ahead. Choose one of the easy and inexpensive ideas I’ve listed above. And make sure that each of the kids in your Sunday School class or children’s ministry get a special treat from you! ❤️
